Broadband is a high speed internet connection. With broadband internet, the data transmission occurs in packets which are sent simultaneously over the line. All over the world internet services are provided by internet service providers (ISPs). A broadband internet connection allows easy file transfer, downloads and web access to the user.
In the United Kingdom, the Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA UK) is the UK's Trade Association for providers of internet services. ISPA UK was established in 1995 to promote competition, self-regulation and the development of the internet industry in the UK. ISPA has over two hundred companies as members.
Need of Broadband Internet for Businesses
In the UK, the number of consumers adopting broadband services in the home is rising rapidly. To keep pace with the technology and to offer goods and services 24/7 to both consumer and business audiences, it has become necessary for businesses to obtain broadband internet connections.
Broadband penetration and generation of wealth are correlated to each other. A broadband connection not only helps to connect to the internet at a faster speed, but opens more communication channels with the consumers and the business partners like VoIP – Voice over Internet Protocol technology (to make cheap calls over a Broadband line), video chat and faster email service for the organization.
Business Broadband Service Providers in UK
Internet service providers are divided in four categories in the UK depending upon the scale of the internet service provided. These are corporate, large, medium and small. Internet service providers like BT, Alcatel-Lucent Telecom, Vodafone and Virgin Media fall under the corporate category. Entanet, KCOM Group PLC, Star Technology Services Limited and Clara.net fall under the large category. NetServices, NYnet, Optenet SA, Tesco Telecoms and UKFast.net fall under the medium category. In small category, companies like Broadband Expert, Aspire Internet Ltd., Adweb, Datanet and ProNet, internet services are included. More information about broadband internet service providers can be accessed from the official ISPA UK website.
Choosing From Different Types of Broadband Services
Internet service providers are providing broadband internet access along with a variety of extra services. The speed of broadband connection varies from 256 kilobyte per second to 1.6 megabyte per second. The selection of speed depends on the size and the type of the business. The other factors when choosing an internet service provider is download limit, setup cost and monthly cost. These may vary with the broadband plan and the internet service provider. The monthly cost for using a broadband service may vary between £12 to £50 depending upon the facilities and the speed provided by the internet service provider.
